
Margaret A. Ruiz-Wagner, a 33-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, has been promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca and has been assigned to Correctional Services Division. She will oversee the Inmate Reception Center, Correctional Services Transportation Bureau, Jail Mental Health Unit, Jail Mental Health Evaluation Team, and serve as liaison to the Department of Mental Health.
Commander Ruiz-Wagner's career with the Sheriffs Department began in 1975 as an Intermediate Typist Clerk. She attended the Department's Training Academy in 1979. After graduating from the Academy as a Deputy Sheriff in 1980, she held assignments at the Sybil Brand Institute for Women, Lakewood Station, Training Bureau, SANE Bureau, and Juvenile Investigations Bureau.She was promoted to Sergeant in 1994 and worked at Century Regional Detention Facility, Norwalk Station, and Civil Litigation Unit. In 2000, she was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to East Los Angeles Station and the Office of the Assistant Sheriff.She was promoted to Captain in 2004 and was assigned to Special Victims Bureau and Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
Commander Ruiz-Wagner holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Business and is currently working on her Bachelor's Degree in Professional Studies from California State University Long Beach.
Commander Ruiz-Wagner resides in Yorba Linda and has three children: Michael, 22; David, 20; and Alicia, 17. In her spare time, she enjoys watching her daughter play soccer and spending time with her family.
