Perkins Foundation - "L.A. County Sheriff's Children's College Scholarship Fund"

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Children’s Scholarship Fund awards college grants of $5,000 per year, for up to four years. In addition, a number of one-time grants will also be awarded to runner-ups. All children and stepchildren of full-time, sworn Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriffs are eligible.

These are merit scholarships. The single most important factor is academic accomplishment, but the selections are also based on other criteria, including personal character, extracurricular activities, and potential for success.

To assist in the difficult task of choosing winners, the Scholarship Selection Committee requires two letters of recommendation (maximum of two letters; no more than 2 pages per letter). The deadline for letters is March 12, 2010. Any length and form of letter is acceptable. At least one letter should be from a recent teacher or counselor, and a relative cannot write either recommendation. Your willingness to share your knowledge about an applicant by writing a letter of recommendation is appreciated.

Letters of recommendation should be mailed directly to:

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department
Professional Development Unit
Attn: Laura Galliher, Operations Assistant III
11515 S. Colima Road, Room M-106
Whittier, CA 90604

You can also call Operations Assistant III Laura Galliher at (562) 903-7571 or via e-mail.
