Records and Identification Bureau has the responsibility for: the collection, input and storage of most documentary and electronic records; retrieval of records and the production of information based upon these records; and Identification of suspects based on record searches. The Bureau manages the Countywide Warrant System and the Los Angeles County Regional Identification System (LACRIS), which is a sub-component of the California Identification System (Cal-ID). The Bureau maintains criminal histories of all state Department of Justice (DOJ) retainable arrest records based upon positive fingerprint identifications. The Bureau is tasked with the mandated reporting of crime and arrest statistics to DOJ; responding to ad hoc requests for crime, arrest, and RAPS information; publishing this information in the Year In Review and Annual Statistical Report; and posting it on the Sheriff's Intranet and Internet sites. The Bureau also manages the Department's Crime Analysis Program and Command Accountability Reporting System (CARS).
