DAN FINKELSTEIN PROMOTED TO COMMANDER
Dan Finkelstein, a 29-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, was promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca, and will have oversight of the Transit Services North and South Bureaus, as well as the Metrolink Bureau, within the Office of Homeland Security.
Commander Finkelstein joined the Department in 1975 as a Law Enforcement Intern assigned to Malibu Station. As a Deputy, he worked at various assignments including the Men’s Central Jail, Sybil Brand Institute for Women, Carson, Firestone, and Lennox Stations and the S.A.N.E. Bureau. In 1987 he was promoted to Sergeant and held assignments at the S.A.N.E. Bureau, Marina del Rey Station and Court Services West Bureau. Following his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 1991, Commander Finkelstein took on assignments at the Pitchess Detention Center’s East Facility, West Hollywood Station, Court Services Division Headquarters, Inmate Reception Center and the Metrolink Bureau.
Commander Finkelstein received an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from Los Angeles Harbor College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University-Long Beach and recently completed a Master’s Degree in Health Science, with a concentration in Emergency and Disaster Management.
Commander Finkelstein resides in Agua Dulce with his wife, Ilene, a Deputy Sheriff assigned to Court Services West Bureau, Lancaster Court. His son Danny, 23, is a resident of Orange County and is in the insurance business.
Commander Finkelstein and his wife enjoy raising and training quarter horses on their ranch. They compete, as partners, in team roping events throughout California and neighboring states. In his leisure time, he enjoys hunting, running, cooking and riding his motorcycles.
