TIMOTHY F. CORNELL PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN
Timothy F. Cornell, a 31-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and has assumed command of the Inmate Reception Center.
Captain Cornell’s law enforcement career began on April 29, 1974 as a cadet in the Sheriff’s Academy. Upon graduation, he served at the Inmate Reception Center and Transportation Bureau, then moved on to patrol assignments at Lynwood Station and Industry Station before transferring to Recruit Training as an Academy Staff Instructor. He promoted to Sergeant in 1985 and was assigned to the Inmate Reception Center, prior to transferring to East Los Angeles Station. He went on to hold assignments at the Special Enforcement Bureau and the Internal Affairs Bureau. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1998 and returned to the Inmate Reception Center, before serving as a Watch Commander at Cerritos Station. He held subsequent assignments as the Field Operations Region III Lieutenant, while assigned to the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Bureau, and was the Chief’s Aide for the Office of Homeland Security, before serving in the Office of the Assistant Sheriffs as the Assistant Sheriff’s Aide. Captain Cornell’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Fullerton in 1981, and he will receive his Master of Arts Degree in Emergency Services Management from California State University, Long Beach in December 2005.
Captain Cornell was born in Des Moines, Iowa and now resides in Upland with his wife of 30 years, Sue. He has two grown daughters and two grandchildren. He enjoys playing golf.
