Gang
Task Force :
|
|
The Compton Gang Task Force had great success in 2007. The team -- which is made up of Operation Safe Streets Detectives, Gang Enforcement Deputies, and Crime Impact Team deputies -- worked the Compton Station area to try to reduce gang violence; making the streets of Compton safer. Over the past year, the Team made over 500 felony arrests, recovering well over 400 guns from Compton gang members. With the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the team arrested the owner of the City of Compton's Boulevard Gun store for illegal sales and distributions of firearms to convicted felons. This resulted in the forced closure ot he Boulevard Gun store.
With the continued assistance of the Compton community and the combined hard work of the Compton Station patrol deputies and Compton Gang Task Force; the City of Compton experienced the lowest homicide total in the past 25 years.
With the results of these efforts, there is hope and expectations that the year of 2008 will see even more successes in stemming the flow of gang violence.

Traffic: |

|

|
The Compton
Traffic Detail investigate collisions within the Compton City limits. They
develop, maintain, and supervise a selective enforcement program to decrease the number of collisions through enforcement of the California Vehicle Code, as well as, providing educational presentations in the community; which have an emphasis on improving traffic safety. Our goa is to partnership with the community to make the streets of Compton safer.
When you are stopped for a traffic violation, it does not mean that you will be issued a citation. In some instances, a warning is given. Usually, a check of your past driving histort, coupled with the seriousness of the violation, will help the deputy determine if a citation is warranted. We realize the costs involved with receiving a citation can be great, but the cost of a collision caused by unsafe driving can be much worse.
The Compton Traffic Detail is glad to assist you with collision reports, citations, and general questions about traffic related topics.
Sergeant Joseph O'Connor is the Comopton Traffic Detail Sergeant - (310) 605-3517

Youth Athletic
League: |
|
|
| |
|
- The purpose of the Compton Youth Athletic League is to provide at-risk youth, in this economically disadvantaged commuity, the opportunity to grow and develop the tools they need to succeed in life. The children get a chance to interact with positive role models from the Sheriff's Department in activities that develop leadership skills, contribute to building good character, selfesteem, and confidence needed to resist the negative influences of drugs and gangs. The Youth athletic League staff is wonderful. We cannot say enough good things about them.
- There is an on-site Deputy Coordinator. All of the programs are offered free of charge. The Y.A.L. staff does not only teach the kids about the important things in life, but also build positive relationships. This is achieved by taking the kids on educational and fun filled trips that expand their life experiences.
- This past August, thirty-five Y.A.L. kids were taken on a fishing expedition out of Marina Del Rey. For many of the kids, this was the fisrst time they had gone fishing or rode on a boat. Additionally, there were sporting events, a carnival, and a Holloween party.
- Thr program that are offered include: tutoring and homework assistance, basketball, soccer, skateboarding, dance, Karate, boxing, and various table games.
- The Compton Y.A.L. is located at 700 North Alameda Street (corner of Elm & Alameda Streets). The Y.A.L. is open Monday through Thursday -- 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. The Y.A.L. provides services for youth between the ages of 8-17 years.
