VOLUNTEER
PROGRAM
More
than 18,870 hours of service was donated by 75 Norwalk Station
volunteers in 2002. This volunteer group includes 6 Clergy,
23 Volunteers On Patrol assigned in the County unincorporated
area, 10 Reserve Deputies, 21 Explorer Scouts, and 15 station
volunteers.
Volunteers
assist with station duties and special events such as the
Rose Parade, Public Safety Fairs, Open Houses, and Town Hall
meetings. Fourteen volunteers have been trained to issue handicapped
parking citations in the County area.
The
ten Reserve Deputies patrol the cities and County area and
serve as the Sergeant At Arms at the City Council meetings
in La Mirada and Norwalk. Reserves also augment Patrol Deputies
at DUI and Licensing Checkpoints and community events.
Of
the nearly 19,000 hours of volunteer service, 4,334 hours
were donated by the Explorers. Explorers are 15 to 21 years
of age and volunteer their time to benefit their community
and develop a better understanding of law enforcement. Through
the program, youth have the opportunity to investigate the
possibility of a career in law enforcement and participate
in meaningful community activities.
